Project No.: 23-00-A01612-000004

The purpose of the project: To promote innovative and economically sound forest management planning of the forest’s multifaceted ecosystem, especially in the ecosystems of cities and forests adjacent to cities, using modern methods and the possibilities provided by IT. Thus, supplementing forest management with a new element that can make forest management more environmentally friendly and balance interests.

Achievable result: An open source platform/program will be developed, which will be freely available to all forest managers and can be used in the development of forest management plans.

Partners: Latvian University of Biosciences and Technologies (leading partner), SIA “Rīgas Meži”, SIA “Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute”, Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Latvia, SIA “SunGIS”, SIA “RGP”, Association “Latvijas Mednieku savienė”, Association “Pierīgas partnerība”, SIA “Niedrāji MR”.

Time of project implementation: 01.07.2023. – 31.05.2025.

Total financing of the project: EUR 483,909.94, incl. EAFLD funding – EUR 435,518.93, while the budget part of the project of SIA “Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute”: EUR 40,970.

The project is implemented with EAFLD Latvian Rural Development Program 2014-2020 event “Cooperation” 16.1. financial support for the sub-measure “Support for the agricultural productivity and sustainability of the European Innovation Partnership for the implementation of the projects of the agricultural productivity and sustainability working groups”.

On May 30, the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Sciences of LBTU hosted the event “Nature-friendly forestry”, where an innovative solution for logging planning was presented.

The solution offers an alternative and economically justified approach to regular opening clear-cutting and random felling methods, which allows improving forest ecosystem services and promoting nature-friendly forestry. This solution improves forest ecosystem services and promotes sustainable, nature-friendly forestry.

The event was attended by industry experts, researchers and practitioners who shared knowledge.
