On 10–11 June 2026, a series of hands-on seminars on LIGNOLOC® metal-free timber connection technologies took place in Riga. The events were organised by the Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute (MeKA) in cooperation with BECK Fastening GmbH (Austria), Riga Technical University (RTU) and Riga Building College (RBK).
The seminars brought together wood product manufacturers, researchers, university lecturers, college students and other industry professionals, providing an opportunity to explore the latest developments in timber connection technologies.
During the theoretical sessions, experts from BECK Fastening GmbH introduced participants to the operating principles of the LIGNOLOC® system, wooden nail technologies and their application in a variety of construction solutions. Particular attention was given to the F44 and F60 wooden nail systems, which enable the creation of fully metal-free timber connections.
The practical sessions allowed participants to experience the LIGNOLOC® technology first-hand by manufacturing sample timber wall elements. These demonstrations highlighted that achieving high-quality timber nail connections requires not only appropriate tools, but also careful joint planning and a thorough understanding of material properties, fastening methods and application requirements.
The seminars also featured engaging discussions on the advantages of metal-free timber connections, their potential in sustainable construction, and the opportunities to integrate these technologies into manufacturing, education and research.
The event once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration between research institutes, educational institutions and industry partners in promoting the practical implementation of innovation and advancing sustainable solutions in timber construction.
MeKA extends its sincere thanks to the experts from BECK Fastening GmbH for sharing their knowledge, to Riga Technical University (RTU) and Riga Building College (RBK) for their warm hospitality, and to all seminar participants for their interest, active engagement and valuable discussions.
