The aim of the project is to obtain objective results about the dynamics of the potential settlement of the surmountable peat section, which will allow to evaluate the performance of the used constructive solutions – wooden piles – at different peat depths, incl. depending on the intensity of transport movement.
Project period: September 2021 – April 2024.
The client of the project is A/S Latvijas valsts meži.
The 1st interim report of the project is available on the Internet:
In the interim report, the research and analysis of the experience of other countries for the use of wooden pile structures in the construction of forest roads, in places where it is necessary to cross weak load-bearing, compressible soils – soils of various biogenic origin (peat, silt, sapropel), flowable clay and others, has been initiated. In order to check the suitability of wooden piles for the conditions of Latvia and to improve the technical and technological solutions for the use of wooden piles in the construction of forest roads, the construction project of the forest road “Tēvgārša road continuation” of AS “Latvijas Valsts meži” from PK 02+50 to PK 07+50 includes a monitoring system for evaluating the effectiveness of the constructive solution of wooden piles. The results of the static loading testing of the first 12 test piles are reviewed in the interim report.
