Research project JP23 “Development and implementation of the EN 16755 accelerated ageing method in a testing laboratory”

Aim of the study: To develop, manufacture and implement in the reaction to fire testing laboratory a prototype of the accelerated aging equipment meeting the requirements of the EN 16755 standard. The project is implemented in response to significant changes in the EN 16755 standard, which determines the assessment of the stability of fire reaction properties after exposure to artificial aging and provides for the introduction of a technologically complex B-method testing cycle.
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to create an innovative and practically applicable technological solution, which will ensure high-precision and reproducible testing results, while expanding the range of laboratory services and strengthening competitiveness on the European market.

Project period: May 2026 – September 2027.

Project implementers: SIA “Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute” together with SIA “Forma”.

The project is implemented in the MNKC support fund program 5.1.1.2.i. “New Products” (CFLA Agreement No. 5.1.1.2.i.0/2/24/A/CFLA/001)

JP23 Project Progress: Technical Solution Developed for the Accelerated Ageing Equipment

In June 2026, the first research activity was completed, with the objective of developing the technology and a detailed technical specification for accelerated ageing equipment compliant with EN 16755. As a result of the activity, the technical concept for the equipment was developed, its functional, technical and operational requirements were defined, and the main components were identified.

Based on an assessment of the requirements of EN 16755 and related testing methodologies, the key technical solutions for the equipment were defined, including the test chamber and specimen holders, wetting and drying systems, UV radiation system, and air circulation system.

The technical specification provides the basis for the further design and development of the equipment prototype.
